It's An Absolute Catastrophe That John Calipari Is Reportedly Keeping His Job And No Kentucky Fan Should Ever Fall For His Bullshit Talk Again
This is it. This is the moment that breaks me. This is the couple that tells all their friends they are going to therapy, they are going to make it work for the kids and get divorced right after Christmas. You know exactly what I'm talking about. This is why it's a catastrophe that he's coming back to be Kentucky's coach again.
More importantly he won't trick me. I love(d) Cal. His era has been awesome, he made Kentucky matter against after the last couple years of Tubby and the Billy G disaster - trust me I was in college for all 4 of those years. It sucked. It sucked not mattering. Cal came in made a bunch of Final Fours, won a title, had UK as a title contender every year and made UK cool again. The way it's supposed to be.
Then the Wisconsin disaster in 2015 happened. Then Luke fucking Maye happened. Then the collapse against Auburn in 2019 happened. Sometime in one of those three games, Cal was broken. Everything he believed in, everything he did, the magic he had. Those games broke him. He tried to dominate the transfer portal and not rely on the one-and-dones - that didn't work. He tried to get back to dominating the one-and-dones this year. That didn't work. Losses to St. Peter's and Oakland in 3 years should never happen at Kentucky, no matter who the coach is.
I don't want to hear anything about the buyout either. YOU'RE KENTUCKY. There's plenty of ways to get money (and get the buyout down). That's just an excuse at this point, which is also why Mitch Barnhart shouldn't have a job. The dumbass AD gave him a lifetime deal, which ends in 2029. Cal is 65 years old right now. You know how asinine it is to have that deal?
Here's the other thing. A PSA to myself and every other Kentucky fan. We can't get fooled by this bullshit again:
We've heard this all before! He got a team that could shoot this year and play fast, when March came he tried to play through Tre Mitchell. He stopped embracing the small ball and having Reeves-Reed-Rob out there more often. He's already made assistant coaches throughout the last few years. He's said he wants to get older and dominate the transfer portal. He's said all this! What really is going to change? Nothing! People don't change at 65 years old, that's what old people do.
It doesn't matter when Cal leaves, shit is going to be different. You're always going to 'worry' about losing recruits. You're going to worry about if the next guy can do what Cal did the first half of his career here. The fact is Kentucky basketball has always had success no matter the coach (outside of Billy G.). 5 different coaches have won a title here. You just need to find the right guy.
So this is me saying I will not be fooled again. I've been hurt too many times. I am ready for the inevitable divorce and two days of Christmas presents. Until he wins a title again nothing can ever be accepted as change. Don't get me wrong, I want Cal to win another one if he's our head coach. You'd be fucking insane to cheer for anything otherwise, I just don't get how he's still the coach.
